THE ASCENT

The Ascent is the first episode in LovedPack's original film series, following a woman and her dog, Amber, on an unexplained mission through the hills of Los Angeles California.

The film begins before we know where they are going.

Radio static breaks the silence.

“How far are you?” “She should have reached the ridge by now.”

Amber is already ahead.

A compass, a map and an almost-empty water bottle suggest there is somewhere they are meant to reach. The woman(Liesl) climbs through the late-summer heat while Amber moves farther up the trail, stopping only long enough to make sure she is still following.

At the ridge, the pace changes.

Wind. Silence. The valley below.

Amber shakes, sending dust through the coat. The LovedPack Glow-up kit bag opens. Reset Cloud Powder, a brush, Glow Mist. A brief ritual before the journey continues.

Then Liesl notices something carved into a trail marker:

She looks toward the next trail.

Amber is already descending.

“We just got here.”

She follows.

The Ascent begins with a destination, but the destination is never really the point.

Liesl is trying to reach the ridge. Amber seems less concerned with arriving than with whatever comes next.

That difference becomes the story.

Dogs have a way of changing the pace of a life built around plans, destinations and schedules. They stop. They notice. They move ahead. They wait. And sometimes, without much explanation, they make us follow.

By the time the pair reaches the top, the journey is already continuing.

Sometimes getting there only reveals where you are going next.
